The Concept
A journey from start to end
"From the Great Divide to the Great Outback" - A quote that distinguishes the Kamilaroi Highway as one of the truly unique highways in Australia which runs from Willow Tree to Bourke through some of the most beautiful agricultural lands in the country. The concept was to represent the diversity and character of the Kamilaroi Highway in the form of an interactive travel guide for visitors to experience the destinations before they arrive. The key objective was to attract new visitors to the region.
The Process
The story and the journey
From the beginning, we wanted to explore the idea of a travel guide that broke all the traditional rules so as to produce an indispensable travel companion which not only represented the locations and attractions of a town, but told a story of the journey one might take from place to place along the length of the highway - accompanied by a full multimedia experience of vision and sound. After designing a narrative that flowed through the entire publication and with the permission of each town along the highway, we deployed a film production team to capture as much content as possible in the format of video, photography and audio. We also created from scratch a series of maps, graphics and interactive navigation devices to ensure the best possible user experience.
The Result

The Kamilaroi Highway Travel Guide for iPad is a beautiful, imaginative showcase of the wonders of this diverse region which sets a new standard for travel communication and marketing in Australia. Designed and produced from the ground up, we were able to deliver a truly unique experience that consistently evokes the response "I just want to go there!" which is perhaps the best success metric of all for a travel guide.
